When the rain doesn’t come

Perhaps it’s when we are in the drought

when we are so thirsty for the rain to come,

eagerly awaiting to be washed clean, to feel something,

that we learn the importance of the dry seasons.

Maybe feeling nothing teaches us something.

Love.

But love, often times isn’t a feeling.

So we convince ourselves if we don’t feel it the way we’d like to receive it,

it’s not there.

We say, “Surely, I am beyond being loved, I am beyond being forgiven.”

We say, “Surely, if I don’t feel this feeling I have convinced myself to be true, then the truth is, I’m not loved.”

But that’s the thing we must indeed learn in the drought- (Something I am still learning how to do)

Truth is truth.

Truth is eternal.

Truth is pure.

Feelings lie.

Feelings change.

Feelings are deceiving.

So, while in our droughts,

We often seek out own advice.

Our own “truths” but just because we believe the lies that have been so engraved in our heads, it doesn’t make them truths.

The devil tries to feed us lie after lie, regarding any matter, and when we believe it, it becomes “truth” to us.

It isn’t eternal truth, it is deception, it is still a lie.

Our heavenly Father shows us love in many ways, and sometimes – while in the drought, we can’t feel it the way we think we are supposed to.

Perhaps that’s what love really is,

Love wants what is best for the other person,

Love isn’t self seeking,

And God knows above us what is best for us, and how His kingdom will be glorified.

So maybe sometimes when we don’t feel a thing,

We need to remember it’s not about us, and maybe what is best for us is to feel nothing: for our faith to grow so strong during this time of desperation. And maybe that’s when we learn what faith really is…

Not a feeling,

rather, “..faith is assurance of [things] hoped for, & convinced of things not seen.” – Hebrews 11:11

– C.S. Lewis says –

“If you look for truth, you may find comfort in the end; if you look for comfort you will not get either comfort or truth only soft soap and wishful thinking to begin, and in the end, despair.”

And King Jesus says.. “The truth shall set you free.” – John 8:32

Amen.
